Google’s Dan Crow: Clean Code Matters

This SearchEngineWatch: How to Get More Pages into Google’s Index article has an interesting quote from Dan Crow of Google which validates something that I’ve always tried to implement at Denial Design for all our search engine optimisation customers. When asked if if it would help Googlebot to index more pages by moving JavaScript and CSS definitions to external files, and clean up messy html code Dan replied “Those would be very good ideas.”
Remember clean code reduces load times for your page and use less bandwidth, so both you and the customer gain. As it can also help get your site indexed in Google there really is no excuse for sloppy code is there? Denial Design aim to build all their sites to the latest W3C CSS and HTML standards as well as making the site as accessible as possible to users with disabilities.
